History and Genealogy

George Richard (16B) & Sydney Lawrence JOUSIFFE (16F) were very successful wine merchants.

The wine merchant business was first identified in 1869 when George Jousiffe was listed as owning a cordial makers in Black Friars Rd.  By 1873 the business had changed to Vinegar makers and had moved to the Old Kent Road.  Also by this time George's brother Sydney had joined the business and so it had become Jousiffe & Jousiffe.

By 1879 Jousiffe & Jousiffe Wine & Spirits Merchants occupied properties in the Old Kent Road and Old Change Road. By 1887 the firm had become Jousiffe & Jenkins with Sydney possibly branching off on his own.

Both brothers died wealthy men in 1923, but having no living sons, the name died with their surviving daughters.
