History and Genealogy

Came across this portrait.

Our hypothesis:

The person in the potrait is Edward Joseph. Could he be our surgeon forefather, borne 1804 and who would have been 43 years old when he sat for this painting. It is only the well-heeled aristrocrats and wealthy middleclass who would have been able to afford to have their potraits painted. The man in the picture looks as if he could be in his early Forties.

At this time Edward's brother, Charles was very active as an artist, and only a year prior to this painting, he had completed his acclaimed portrait of Sir Henry Robert Dukinfield: read more here: https://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portrait/mw193472/Sir-Henry-Robert-Dukinfield

One can only wonder if Charles did Edward a favour, and did his protrait "incognito"?
