This is in all likelihood a potrait of our Edward Joseph (1804 to 1857), the surgeon by profession.

It is also quite probable that the painting was done by his younger brother, Charles, a year after Charles completed his acclaimed portrait of Sir Henry Robert Dukinfield.

All this is yet to be verified, however.
